라이브 버전에는 앞의 오페라 형식의 노래가 없기에 가사를 빼버렸다.
내가 퀸에 갑작스레 열광하게 된 것은 작년이었는데, 어쩌다가 그렇게 되었는 지는 까먹었다.
하여간 이 노래 때문이었던 것은 확실하다.
노래에 빠지고, 프레디 머큐리에 대해서 알아보다가 충격적인 죽음도 알고, 라이브 무대 찾아보다가 다시 안타까워하고.. 뭐 그런 시간들을 한동안 보냈었다. 그러고 보니 딱 일년 전이다.
요새, 아침 출근길에 이어폰을 끼면 제일 먼저 나오는 노래가 이 곡이다.
아무래도 라이브의 매력에 취하니 원곡 버전은 심심해서 안 듣게 된다.
작년에 깨달은 건데, 오래 전에 읽은 만화책 중에 김은희씨 작품으로 M&M이 있었다.
거기서 마리아로 나오는 소년(청년?)이 어느 뮤지션의 죽음에 충격을 받아 추모 공연에 몰래 달려가는 장면이 나오는데, 돌이켜 생각해 보니, 그때 그 뮤지션이 프레디 머큐리 같다. 그때는 퀸에 대한 정보가 전혀 없어서 모르고 봤는데, 십년도 더 된 그 만화의 내용이 뒤늦게 생각이 나더라.
요새 이승환 공연에 가면 퀸의 "Don't stop me now"를 심심찮게 들을 수 있다. 아흐, 프레디의 현신 같았다.
내가 이승환을 좋아하는 것은 사실이지만, 정말 두 노래를 같이 들어보아도 차이를 못 느낄 만큼 멋졌드랬다.
이승환 덕분에 퀸이 더 좋아졌더래나 뭐래나...
그나저나, 저 가사 참 슬프다. 인터넷에서 검색해 보면 한글 가사는 버전이 여러개 던데..(저마다 해석이 다름.ㅡ.ㅡ;;;;) 하여간 슬픈 건 마찬가지였다. 가사만 보아도 프레디는 천재 같다..;;;;
