그리고 재미있게 우엘백은 자신은 소설에 등장시킨다...그리고 죽인다...그것도 아주 처첨하게....블랙유머라고나 할까?

여기 나온 주인공들은 다들 참 고독하다. 제드, 제드 아버지, 우엘백 등등 그리고 그런 면이 참 공감이 간다...506쪽에 '그가 결코 촌전히 애착을 느껴본 적이 없는 존재였다." 나도 현재 하는 일을 하고 있지 않았다면 예술가의 삶을 살까? 제드의 아버지가 마지막 죽음을 스스로 안락사를 선택하는 장면....그리고 그런 안락사를 도와주는 기간의 비인간적인 모습이 대조되면서 정말 우리가 지향해야할 것이 무엇인지 생각하게 된다.

이 책은 원어로 읽었다면 훨씬 좋았을것 같다.

story of 2 men...completely opposites...zorba is in his 60s not well educated but wordly in his ways, brave, artistic on the other hand the protaganist is young scholarly type cautious...

i was shocked about how the village people murder the widower because a man who was in love with her committed suicide...like it was her fault??

i guess this was the norm back then..but it is very scary and uncomfortable...

remember. we will not forget

Such a heart wrenching story. I saw the movie first and was surprised how well the movie portrayed the book. It's almost 100% similar.

Through the life of Sarah and sarah's adopted family, the writer shows how painful and awful concentration camps were and what consequences it has on the people affected. ANd how much that experience traumatizes ones life. Sarah tries to live a normal life and meets a wonderful family, but she cannot forget how she killed her brother and her experience in the camp. She tries to forget by leaving to America and severing all ties with her adopted family. But that does not help as well.

It's horrifying how normal people just watched and let this craziness happen. As the translator writes : Primo Levi said there are monsters but few. It's the normal people that are dangerous. People who don't criticize and ask questions and just follows authority.

2주간의 사랑이야기

기막힌 상상력이다....전혀 기억나지 않는 여자로부터 이별통보를 받은 전화...그 전화로 주인공의 삶이 완전히 달라진다.....이여자를 사랑했는지는 알수 없지만 사랑하게 되었고 자신의 한계에 대해서 다시 직면하게 되고 새로운 사람들을 만나게 된다.

가장 마음에 들었던 부분은 주인공이 승진을 거절했을때....자기는 좋아하는 일을 하고 평범하게 사는게 꿈이지 승진하는게 목표가 아니었다고..ㅋ 정말 너무 잼있는 발상이다....이런 독특한 사람들이 주변에 많으면 인생 참 즐거울 것 같다.
